Magic at the Matterhorn

Today we rode the cable cars up the alps to get a closer view of the majestic Matterhorn.

We got the package that would take us all the way up to the sweet Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.  And give us access to the hightest viewing platform in the alps.

We first stopped at Schwarzee where we could walk around and take some nice pics of the Matterhorn before it got too socked in by clouds.  The weather up there was perfect and beautiful.  We really didn't even need jackets.

And we took the classic jumping pics.

Then it was off to the next leg of the journey to up over 12,000 feet high.  Thank goodness neither of us are afraid of heights.  The Matterhorn was hidden by clouds from that vantage point but it was still stunning to look out at all of the Alps.

While we were up there - we got to go inside an actual glacier.  It was freezing and they were playing Cher over the speakers, which is I'm sure standard inside any glacier.

This photo makes Chris look like a magical wizard.

An ice Matterhorn!  Not covered on clouds.

Also - we got to ride these snow tubes...

Then it was back down the mountain after a super expensive hot chocolate in the restaurant.  We stopped back in Schwarzee again to wander around some more.

We decided to use our limited hiking skills to hike up closer to the actual Matterhorn.  I was a bit worried since we didn't have the same fancy hiking sticks that everyone around us had...  But when in Zermatt - we decided to go for it!

The hike really wasn't too bad and at no time did we almost fall down the mountains...

Once we got to a reasonable plateau we decided to stop and let the people with the fancy sticks go the rest of the way.  We found a nice rock to rest on and catch our breath.

Well - it took Chris a little longer to catch his breath...  Cause this happened...

Yep - he asked me to marry him and I said "yes - of course!"  A perfect moment between me, Chris and the Matterhorn.  I'm super, insanely happy - that I found my true love, that we got engaged at one of the coolest places on the planet and that he put so much thought into making this the most wonderful moment ever.  To say I'm lucky doesn't quite cut it.  A pretty perfect first 48 hours in Switzerland...  who knew I'd have such a wonderful reason to love it here even more.

The rocks here are spectacular!

  2. I'm sure I'm not the only one who expected this was coming as soon as there was the reveal of a Secret Trip and a Trip Blog. I mean, anything else would feel anticlimactic, right? So I, for one, am incredibly glad and excited to know that you guys finally got to hear Cher inside a glacier. PHEW. About time, right?

    Congratulations!
